Witold Bańka, president of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), highlighted the importance of global cooperation in implementing the new World Anti-Doping Code and praised China's commitment to clean sport in an exclusive interview with Guangming Online while visiting Tsinghua University in Beijing on Sunday.
Bańka said the coming year will be a crucial period for governments and national anti-doping organizations worldwide as they prepare to implement the updated 2027 World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards. He urged stakeholders to accelerate efforts to ensure full compliance before the deadline.
He also called on governments to invest more resources in anti-doping work, noting that the credibility of a country's sports system depends on maintaining integrity and fair competition.
Speaking about China, Bańka described the country as an important partner of WADA. He said China's zero-tolerance stance on doping demonstrates a strong commitment to fair play and provides a solid foundation for cooperation with WADA. While emphasizing that doping remains a global challenge, Bańka said China has shown a strong willingness to work with WADA to safeguard a level playing field for athletes around the world.
