ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Mahmoud Ali Youssouf congratulated Faustin-Archange Touadera on his re-election as president of the Central African Republic (CAR).
In a statement issued on Monday, Youssouf commended the progress under Touadera's leadership in the areas of security, post-conflict recovery and sustainable economic development.
The chairperson said that CAR has demonstrated remarkable improvement in the implementation of the disarmament, demobilization, reintegration and repatriation process for armed groups, and the redeployment of state authority across an increasing portion of the country.
He also congratulated the people of CAR for their commitment to consolidating peace, stability and republican institutions in line with the aspirations of Agenda 2063 and Silencing the Guns.
He reaffirmed the full readiness of the AU Commission to support CAR in close collaboration with regional and international partners to tap into its potential to realize peace, development and the well-being of its people.
On Monday, the Constitutional Council of CAR proclaimed the final results of the Dec. 28, 2025, presidential election, declaring incumbent President Touadera re-elected.
Touadera, who secured 77.9 percent of the vote, will serve a seven-year term, the Constitutional Council announced at an official ceremony in the capital, Bangui. ■
