Former Afghan police commander killed in Iran: media

TEHRAN, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- A former Afghan police commander was killed in an armed attack in the Iranian capital, Tehran, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Thursday.

Identified as Ikramuddin Saree, a police commander of northern Afghanistan's Takhar province in the former Afghan government, he was shot dead after leaving his workplace in Valiasr Street, Mehr said, quoting an informed source with Iran's police confirming the assassination.

It added that Saree was promptly transferred to the hospital but succumbed to his severe injuries. Investigations into the incident are ongoing. ■
