This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Over the past decades, Xinjiang has achieved historic accomplishments and undergone transformative changes across all sectors.
In terms of cultural development, the region has strengthened cultural confidence, reinforced cultural identity and bonds, and advanced Chinese culture—including its rich ethnic diversity—with greater momentum and more robust measures. As a result, it has ensured effective protection of cultural heritage, thriving cultural creativity, improved public cultural services, and accelerated the development of cultural and tourism industries.
By 2024, Xinjiang had housed 195 institutions of cultural heritage protection at all levels, 150 registered museums, and 9,545 verified and registered immovable cultural relics. The number of tourists to Xinjiang has increased from 48.6 million in 2012 to 302 million in 2024, a 6.21-fold increase, and the total revenues from tourism in Xinjiang were RMB359.5 billion in 2024, , according to the white paper CPC Guidelines for Governing Xinjiang in the New Era: Practice and Achievements, released by the State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China on September 19, 2025.
