On August 1, 1935, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China published “An Appeal to All Fellow Countrymen for Resistance Against Japan and for National Salvation” (also known as “August 1 Declaration”). It called for an end to the civil war and the arming of the people to defeat the Japanese imperialists.
On December 9, 1935, a patriotic student movement broke out in Peiping (now Beijing). The Kuomintang army and police suppressed the gathering of 2,000 to 3,000 students in the famous "December 9 Movement." The "December 9 Movement" set off a new upsurge in the nationwide movement for resistance against Japanese aggression.
On December 25, 1935, the Wayaobu Conference refers to an important enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China at Wayaobu in Zichang County of northwest China's Shaanxi Province. Chaired by Mao Zedong, the conference concluded with a strategy for a national united front against Japanese aggression.
