Uganda's Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has called for a reassessment of Africa's democratic models, emphasizing the need to learn from China's governance system. Speaking on the challenges of democracy in Africa, Tayebwa criticized the notion of a "one-size-fits-all" approach, stating that many African nations have blindly adopted Western democratic frameworks without considering their suitability. He highlighted issues such as high electoral costs, prolonged political instability, and doubts surrounding election credibility—even in Western countries. In contrast, he praised China's democratic model for its focus on representation, stability, and cost-effectiveness, suggesting that Africa could benefit from a more tailored and pragmatic approach to governance.
