Green roofs illuminate "Beautiful China" in Ningxia

An increasing number of Chinese residents are transforming their rooftops into environmentally friendly landscapes, blending tradition and modernity to manifest the concept of a "Beautiful China" in their homes.

At the foot of the Helan Mountains in Northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Yuanlong Village in Minning Town offers a striking example of this trend. Rows of newly built agricultural residences with red-tiled roofs and white walls line the streets. Viewed from above, glimmering blue photovoltaic panels atop each roof create a vibrant mosaic against the vast Gobi Desert under the winter sun.

This integration of solar energy is a modern nod to the Chinese architectural tradition of harmonizing humanity with nature. Yuanlong villager Zhang Hui explained her decision to install photovoltaic panels on her roof. “The panels not only provide us with extra income but also allow us to contribute to the nation’s efforts in reducing emissions and conserving energy.” She emphasized that the initiative embodies a key feature of Chinese modernization - the harmonious coexistence of people and the environment.

China has made significant strides in solar photovoltaic technology in recent years, positioning it as a cornerstone of the country's strategy to achieve its "dual carbon" goals: peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
