TIANJIN, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Jiang Jie, a former senior political advisor of southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, stood trial on bribery charges at the Tianjin First Intermediate People's Court on Wednesday.

Jiang was formerly a member of the leading Party members group of the Xizang Autonomous Regional Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice chairman of the committee.

According to the first branch of the people's procuratorate of Tianjin, Jiang took undue advantage of his various positions in Shandong Province and Xizang from 2000 to 2023 to assist relevant organizations and individuals in matters concerning administrative approval, project contracting, land transfer and job promotion. In return, he illegally accepted money and valuables worth over 225 million yuan (about 31.55 million U.S. dollars).

At the trial, the prosecutors presented evidence, which was examined by the defendant and his defense counsel. The two sides gave their respective accounts, according to a court statement.

Jiang pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in his final statement.

The verdict will be announced in due course. ■
