Dashiba Ancient Village, a historically significant site along the ancient Southern Silk Road and Horse Road in Xichang City, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, is experiencing a renaissance through cultural tourism. The village, which has been a crucial part of China's rich heritage, is now leveraging the rural revitalization strategy to preserve its historical and cultural resources, attracting tourists and boosting the local economy.
In recent years, Dashiba has embraced a strategy that not only aims to preserve its history but also to improve the livelihoods of its residents. The village's transformation is a testament to the effectiveness of combining cultural preservation with tourism development.
"Dashiba is a very beautiful place that has managed to preserve its cultural essence," said Ms. Dabee Meerchandni Meshouda Raj, a poverty reduction official from Mauritius. "The temple here is incredible and has retained its religious significance. Many shops sell traditional items, which is excellent for tourists and locals alike. This is the first time we've seen such traditional attire and practices, and it's an amazing experience."
Another visitor poverty reduction official from Mauritius, Ms. Ramdenee-Kotadoo Jayana Devi, emphasized the importance of integrating tourism with cultural traditions. "It's a perfect example of how to keep cultural values and norms alive. By preserving this village, both locals and tourists can experience its rich heritage. It remains a living culture for current and future generations. In many parts of the world, civilizations have disappeared, but here, we can still learn so much."
The revitalization of Dashiba Village has had a significant impact on the local community. The influx of tourists has led to increased income for villagers, who can now sell traditional goods and offer services related to cultural tourism. This economic boost is crucial for rural areas, where opportunities are often limited.
The village's success could serve as a model for other regions with similar historical and cultural assets. By focusing on sustainable tourism and cultural preservation, other communities can also achieve economic growth while maintaining their unique heritage.
