The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month. In Chinese it’s called “Yuan Xiao”, or “night of the first lunar month”, which coincides with the first full moon of the new year. Since ancient times, appreciating lanterns has been the dominant way to celebrate the day, hence the name “Lantern Festival”.
