The start of summer, or Lixia, the 7th of the 24 solar terms in the traditional lunar calendar falls on May 5 this year. It marks the end of spring and the beginning of summer.
Lixia means the start of summer in Chinese, but in ancient Chinese it also means growing up. So, Lixia also signals the growing season for the crops sown in spring.
