The latest session of the International Showcase of Young Chinese Writers was held in Beijing on Oct. 13, co-organized by the China Writers Association and the National Library of China.

The event featured two sessions and brought together more than 20 emerging Chinese writers to share their stories, ideas and visions for the future.

In an interview with Guangming Online, Du Lan, a young writer from north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, said she considers overseas readers when creating her works. She believes Chinese literature can reach global audiences by exploring universal human experiences and highlighting distinctive Chinese cultural elements.

Li Hongwei, winner of the 2022 Yu Dafu Fiction Prize, described complexity and vitality as the defining features of contemporary Chinese literature. He cautioned against short-term strategies to attract overseas readers, calling instead for a sustained commitment to high-quality writing that can meet the expectations of a broader international readership as interest in Chinese literature grows.
