From October 9 to 11, city representatives from around the world gathered in Luoyang, central China’s Henan Province, for the 2026 Global Mayors Dialogue to exchange insights on cultural heritage preservation, industrial development and urban renewal.

Drawing on Luoyang's experience in balancing heritage preservation with modern development, participants discussed approaches to urban governance and sustainable growth.

Robbie Rodiss, chair of Durham County Council in the United Kingdom, stressed the importance of balancing tourism with heritage protection. John Mahu Macharia, director of Trade, Investment and Industrialization of Nakuru County, Kenya, highlighted prospects for cooperation with Chinese enterprises in agricultural mechanization and innovation. Other representatives underscored the role of cultural exchange in strengthening ties between cities.

The dialogue highlighted the value of international exchanges in sharing development experience and exploring practical cooperation, with participants looking to build stronger partnerships and advance the sustainable development of their cities.
