SYDNEY, July 31 (Xinhua) -- A man has been charged after police in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) seized a hydroponic cannabis crop from a southwest Sydney home.

The NSW Police Force said in a statement on Friday that officers executed a search warrant at the home in Bass Hill, 20 km southwest of central Sydney, on Thursday morning, where they located 415 cannabis plants inside being grown hydroponically.

The plants, with a total estimated value of 1.2 million Australian dollars (about 843,500 U.S. dollars), were seized, and a 41-year-old man was charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of a prohibited plant.

If found guilty, he faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

The man was refused bail at an initial court appearance. ■
