TOKYO, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-eight people have fallen ill from mass food poisoning in the city of Sendai in Japan's northeastern prefecture of Miyagi, the city government said on Wednesday.
According to authorities, many customers began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea and fever after eating sashimi, sushi and other items at a Sushi restaurant in Sendai on Dec. 26.
Subsequent investigations found that some of the affected customers tested positive for norovirus.
The Sendai municipal government ordered the restaurant to close for three days, from Dec. 31 through Jan. 2, 2026, as a penalty. ■
