Greek expert: Cross-sector collaboration is key to cultural heritage digitalization

The digital empowerment of cultural heritage preservation is “a mission for all humanity, not for a single country”, said Kostas Nikou, executive director of the University of Western Macedonia in Greece, in a recent interview with Guangming Online.

He noted that the growing need for cultural preservation makes interdisciplinary cooperation indispensable. Experts in history, architecture, and relics must work closely with IT specialists to enhance understanding of relics’ value, optimize manpower, and boost the efficiency of conservation work. “It's not an easy task, but it has to be done at the shortest time possible.”

He emphasized that the World Internet Conference provides a valuable platform for global practitioners and scientists to exchange ideas, calling for more hands-on workshops and interactive formats to ensure better results.
