BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Braian Romero scored two first-half goals to lead Velez Sarsfield to a 3-1 home win over Atletico Tucuman in Argentina's Primera Division on Monday.

The visitors took the lead through Mateo Bajamich's 14th-minute strike but Romero equalized by chipping a shot over goalkeeper Matias Mansilla from a tight angle.

Romero then gave his side the lead as he swept home a first-time effort from eight yards after a slick one-two with Tomas Galvan.

Diego Valdes put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time, running onto Claudio Baeza's pass and rifling low into the bottom right corner.

The victory lifted Velez to second in Group B with 21 points, one behind leaders Deportivo Riestra. Atletico Tucuman remained seventh, nine points further back.

Elsewhere in Argentina's Primera Division on Monday, Belgrano drew 1-1 at Barracas Central and Instituto Cordoba was held to a goalless home draw by Lanus. ■
