COLOMBO, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) announced on Thursday that authorities arrested 34 people for soliciting bribes in the first six months of 2025.
According to the CIABOC, the commission received 3,022 complaints between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2025. During this period, officers conducted 27 effective raids, resulting in the arrests.
The suspects include 10 Sri Lankan police officers, five officials from the Ministry of Justice, two from the Ministry of Health, and two from the Sri Lanka Transport Board, the CIABOC said.
In 2024, authorities arrested 86 suspects on bribery charges, according to commission data. ■
