Seminar on Rural Development Held Under the Global Development Initiative

A seminar on rural development was held on December 2, 2024, under the framework of the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative (GDI). The event was jointly organized by the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture and the Embassy of China to Italy, at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Rome.

The opening ceremony featured prominent figures, including Mr. Zhang Lubiao, Ambassador of China to FAO, Mr. Jia Guide, Ambassador of China to Italy, and Dr. Qu Dongyu, Director-General of FAO. Representatives from other countries, such as Russia and Indonesia, also participated in the event, delivering speeches and highlighting the importance of global cooperation in advancing rural development.

The seminar focused on the role of rural development in achieving sustainable economic growth, poverty reduction, and food security. Ms. Li Xin, Deputy Director-General of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), was invited to attend the seminar and presented during a panel discussion on poverty reduction. Her insights emphasized the critical role that rural development plays in alleviating poverty and promoting inclusive growth, particularly in developing regions.

The event provided a platform for sharing experiences and best practices on rural development, fostering international dialogue on how to achieve sustainable solutions for poverty reduction and rural revitalization. The seminar underscored the significance of collaborative efforts among countries and international organizations in addressing the challenges of rural development globally.
