2024 marks the 30th anniversary of China's full access to the global internet and the 10th anniversary of the country's cyber development strategy. In this episode, we invited Francis Gurry, former Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Vice Chairman of the World Internet Conference, to join us on an Interview Series titled "A New Era of Internet".
Gurry highlighted China's extraordinary rate of internet penetration – around 1 billion internet users that account for 20% of the global total. "This is an extraordinary development over the past 30 years," noted Gurry.
Gurry highlighted China's achievements in internet and AI and underscored its influence on global governance. He called for leveraging platforms like the World Internet Conference to bring people together to build on a framework and guiding principles for explosive development of technology.
