In a recent interview, Thomas Tayebwa, Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, emphasized the importance of China’s unique approach to development in Africa. He highlighted how China has provided much-needed support for critical projects in African communities without the conditionalities often imposed by Western nations. Tayebwa praised China for fostering partnerships based on mutual respect and for recognizing Africa's distinct cultural and societal needs.
Tayebwa underscored that modernization does not equate to westernization, a key lesson learned from China’s development model. He commended China’s focus on discipline, poverty alleviation, and rural development, noting how Uganda and other African countries can adapt these strategies to their own local contexts.
He stressed that Africa must chart its own development path, learning from China’s approach of creating local solutions for local problems. According to Tayebwa, Africa should develop solutions that align with the continent’s unique needs and cultural values.
