Interview: National wetland park helps to preserve natural ecosystem in Nyingchi, SW China's Xizang

Stretching across the picturesque counties of Nyingchi and Milin, the Yani National Wetland Park stands as a sanctuary of unparalleled beauty and ecological significance. This pristine wetland, marked by vast lakes, lush forests, and towering mountains, is a living masterpiece of nature and a testament to dedicated conservation efforts.

The park's breathtaking scenery, with its majestic snow-capped mountains, meandering rivers, and verdant vegetation, attracts countless visitors, especially during the summer when the cooler climate offers a refreshing escape from the heat. Yet, the preservation of this natural wonder has been a challenging task, requiring the tireless efforts of devoted rangers.

"In the past, the trees in the wetland park, especially the willows, were often cut down by villagers to feed cattle. Now, with protection measures in place, these trees are completely off-limits," explains Wangdark, a veteran ranger. "Typically, we patrol three times a day. Our main task is to check if the trees have any pests or diseases. If we find any issues, we report them immediately."

The conservation efforts at Yani National Wetland Park reflect China's dedication to safeguarding the natural ecosystem to give full play to the ecological, social and economic benefits of the wetland areas.
