Egypt, Switzerland discuss boosting economic cooperation

  CAIRO, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat has met with Swiss State Secretary for Economic Affairs Helene Budliger Artieda in Egypt's resort of Sharm El-Sheikh to discuss ways to boost bilateral economic cooperation.

  The talks were held on the sidelines of the eighth annual meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), in which both countries are non-regional members, the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation said in a statement on Wednesday.

  "The two sides discussed efforts to enhance cooperation in the area of climate action and transition to a green economy," said the statement.

  Al-Mashat emphasized the depth of development cooperation between the two sides that has extended to about 40 years, adding that Egypt aspires to elevate relations with Switzerland "to broader horizons."

  The Egyptian minister also highlighted his country's efforts to mobilize green investments for mitigating and adapting to climate change.

  For her part, Artieda underscored the importance of economic cooperation with Egypt and emphasized "Switzerland's keenness to further promote trade and investment with Egypt."

  The two-day annual meeting of the AIIB kicked off on Monday in Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh under the theme of "Sustainable Growth in a Challenging World." ■
