In the face of drastic changes unseen in a century, Xi Jinping put forward the strategic idea of advancing major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in 2014. He pointed out that Chinese diplomacy must bear its own characteristics, and must hold high the banners of peace, development, and win-win cooperation, and that the central tasks of peaceful development and national rejuvenation must be followed unswervingly.
In a speech at the Moscow Institute of International Relations in March 2013, Xi proposed the concept of building a community of shared future for mankind, which immediately generated wide impacts on the international community. The concept represents Chinese wisdom and solution to various complex problems facing mankind. In March 2017, “building a community of shared future for mankind” was included in the UN Security Council Resolution 2344.
In addition, in the autumn of 2013, Xi put forward the initiative of building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. In 2014, the “Belt and Road Initiative” was formally proposed as a new mode of cooperation and a pathway towards common prosperity and development, which has attracted widespread attention and participation from all around the world.
To advance the building of the community of a shared future, the CPC Central Committee is committed to fostering global partnerships and improving the global governance system, and resolutely safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests to underpin China’s reform initiatives and its dream of great national rejuvenation.
