RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo have sacked manager Renato Gaucho after the club's loss to Brazilian rivals Palmeiras in the Copa Libertadores final.

Renato led the club to 25 wins, eight draws and five defeats following his appointment in July.

"Flamenco announces that after talks between both parties, coach Renato Gaucho is no longer in charge of the first team," the Rio de Janeiro club tweeted.

The decision was widely anticipated by Brazil's media following Flamengo's 2-1 defeat to Palmeiras in the final of South America's top club competition on Saturday.

Assistant coach Mauricio Souza will take charge of the Rubro-negro on an interim basis.

Flamengo are currently second in the Brazilian Serie A standings, 11 points behind leaders Atletico Mineiro. Enditem
