[Overview] The state of New South Wales (NSW) has the largest economy and population in Australia. Located in the southeast of the country, the state covers an area of 809,400 square kilometers and has a population of about 7.7 million.

[Politics] The political system of NSW is based on the separation of powers among the legislative, judicial and executive authorities, with the governor being the nominal executive head of the state and the representative of the Queen of the United Kingdom in the state. The incumbent governor is Margaret Beazley. The New South Wales Parliament consists of two Houses: the Legislative Council (Upper House), which has 42 seats, and the Legislative Assembly (Lower House) with 93 seats. The state government is led by the premier who is responsible for state affairs for a term of four years. The incumbent premier Gladys Berejiklian first ascended to the position in January 2017 and was re-elected in March 2019.

[Economy] As the most economically developed and vibrant state of Australia, NSW has such important industries as service, agriculture, information and communications technology, biomedicine and manufacturing.

[Transportation] NSW boasts convenient sea, land and air transportation. It has four important ports for international trade, namely Port Sydney, Botany Bay, Port of Newcastle and Port Kembla. The state has more than 10,000 kilometers of railway and over 40,000 kilometers of roads, and Sydney Airport is the largest airport in the country.

[Culture and Education] NSW boasts several preeminent universities, including The University of Sydney, the most time-honored one in the country, The University of New South Wales, Macquarie University and University of Technology Sydney. It is also home to the famous Sydney Opera House and Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

[Relations with Beijing] Beijing and New South Wales established the sister-city relationship on August 3, 2012 and renewed the sister-city agreement on November 4, 2019. The two sides have carried out fruitful cooperation in recent years in such areas as scientific and technological innovation, clean energy and culture.

Scientific and Technological Innovation: In 2013, the Zhongguancun Science Park set up its Australian liaison office in NSW to boost pragmatic cooperation and exchanges in the field of science and technology. In 2016, OriginWater, a high-tech enterprise based in the Zhongguancun National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone, launched its operation in the Torch Innovation Precinct at UNSW, the first of its kind outside China, indicating substantial progress in the joint efforts of building a world-class water research center.

Clean Energy: In 2014, Beijing Energy Group completed its investment in the Gullen Range Wind Farm in NSW. In 2018, the Gullen solar power plant, also acquired by Beijing Energy Group, commenced full-capacity operation. Located within the Gullen Range, Gullen solar power plant shares the power-generating facilities with the wind farm, making Gullen Range the first large-scale co-located wind and solar farm in Australia.

Culture: In 2012, China NCPA (National Center for the Performing Arts) Orchestra held a special concert at the Concert Hall of Sydney Opera House, celebrating 40 years of diplomatic ties between China and Australia. In 2014, the symphony orchestra of Sydney Opera House staged a performance at the NCPA in Beijing.

【概况】新南威尔士州（以下简称“新州”）是澳经济、人口“第一州”。位于澳东南部，面积80.94万平方公里，人口约770万。

【政治】新州实行立法、司法和行政三权分立制。州督是名义上最高首脑，是英国女王在新州的代表。现任州督玛格丽特·比兹利。州议会分上下两院，上议院42个议席，下议院93个议席。州政府由州长领导，主要负责本州具体事务，任期4年。现任州长格拉迪斯·贝雷吉克利安，于2017年1月首次就职，于2019年3月连任。

【经济】新州是全澳经济最发达、最具活力的州。主要产业包括服务业、农业、信息通讯技术产业、生物医药、制造业等。

【交通】新州海、陆、空交通便利。新州有四大对外贸易港口：悉尼港、植物港、纽卡斯尔港和肯布拉港。新州铁路线全长1万多公里，公路全长4万多公里。悉尼机场是澳全国最大的机场。

【文化教育】新州拥有全澳历史最悠久的悉尼大学、新南威尔士大学、麦考瑞大学和悉尼科技大学等知名学府。新州是悉尼歌剧院和悉尼交响乐团的所在地。

【两地交往】2012年8月3日，北京市与新南威尔士州建立友好市州关系。2019年11月4日，我市与新州续签友好市州关系协议。近年来，双方在科技创新、清洁能源、人文等领域的合作成果丰硕。

科创领域：2013年，中关村科技园区驻澳大利亚联络处在新州成立，深入推动双方在科技领域的交流与务实合作。2016年，中关村国家自主创新示范区高新技术企业碧水源入驻澳大利亚新南威尔士大学火炬创新园（中国境外的首个火炬创新园区），双方正式步入共建世界高水平水领域研究中心的实质性阶段。

清洁能源：2014年，京能集团完成对新南威尔士州格伦风电项目的投资。2018年，京能集团收购的澳洲格伦太阳能电场全面运营启动，该项目位于格伦风电项目场区内，并共用发电设施，是澳大利亚首个工业级大规模风光共置示范项目。

人文领域：2012年，国家大剧院管弦乐团在澳大利亚悉尼歌剧院音乐厅举办庆祝中澳建交40周年专场音乐会。2014年，悉尼歌剧院交响乐团在国家大剧院举办演出。
