[Overview] Ottawa is the capital of Canada, located in Ontario. The city is situated on the lower bank of the Ottawa River, a tributary of the St. Lawrence River in the southeast of Canada. The national capital region (including Ottawa, Ontario; Gatineau, Quebec; and neighboring towns) covers an area of 4,715 square kilometers and has a population of 1.324 million.

[Politics] The Ottawa City Council has 24 members, including 23 councilors representing the 23 wards throughout the city and the mayor elected at large. Council members are elected to four-year terms. The current mayor Jim Watson was first elected in 1997 and held office until 2003. He was re-elected mayor in 2010, 2014 and 2018.

[Economy] High and new technology is one of the major industries in Ottawa, accounting for nearly 20% of the city's GDP. The Kanata area in Ottawa is known as Silicon Valley North. There are more than 1,800 high-tech companies in the city, employing about 80,000 workers and operating in such fields as telecommunications, software, and semiconductors. Ottawa, as a world-renowned hub for research and development, is home to a great number of R&D institutions of the government, universities or privately-owned. The Canadian federal government is Ottawa's largest employer, with government-related sectors accounting for nearly 20% of the city's GDP. Ottawa also has highly developed finance, tourism, and health care industries.

[Education] There are four universities, two colleges and many vocational schools in Ottawa. The University of Ottawa and Carleton University are the two most famed institutions of higher learning in the city. Ottawa has the most educated population among Canadian cities, and also the largest percentage of doctorate holders in North America, which is roughly the same as that of Boston, U.S.

[Relations with Beijing] On October 18, 1999, Beijing and Ottawa established a sister city relationship. In recent years, the two cities have maintained close contact and engaged in fruitful cooperation in the fields of technological innovations, investment, trade, culture and tourism.

Sci-Tech Innovation: In 2014, ZGC Group and Invest Ottawa launched the Ottawa International Incubation Center which has attracted innovation projects and high-caliber professionals in Canada. Some projects have successfully settled in Zhongguancun.

Investment and trade: In 2015, Zhongguancun Private Equity & Venture Capital Association and Invest Ottawa jointly held the Ottawa Investment Conference in Beijing. The Ottawa delegation showcased a number of projects in fields such as medical devices, big data, and clean energy, and exchanged views with Chinese investors and entrepreneurs.

Culture and Tourism: In 2012, Ottawa City was among the first group of cities joining the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) initiated by Beijing. In 2014, China NCPA Orchestra gave a concert at the National Arts Center of Canada in Ottawa. In 2017, as part of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Canada, the Beijing Week was held in Ottawa, attracting 16,000 Canadians to participate. The event leveraged different elements and approaches to showcase in a vivid way what Beijing looks like.

【概况】渥太华市是加拿大首都，位于安大略省，地处加东南部圣·劳伦斯河支流—渥太华河下游河畔。首都地区（包括安大略省渥太华市、魁北克省加蒂诺市及周围城镇）面积4715平方公里，人口132.4万。

【政治】渥太华市政委员会共有24名委员，包括分别代表全市23个选区的23名委员以及全市选举产生的市长，任期一般为4年。现任市长万晋思，1997年首次当选，2003年卸任后于2010年再次当选，并于2014年、2018年获得连任。

【经济】高新技术产业是渥太华市主要产业之一，占全市GDP近20%。位于渥太华的卡纳塔地区素有“北方硅谷”的美誉。渥太华地区有1800多家高科技公司，员工总数近8万人，业务涵盖电信、软件、半导体等。渥太华是世界著名的研发中心，拥有众多政府、大学和私营研发机构。加拿大联邦政府是渥太华的最大雇主，行政相关产业占全市GDP近20%。此外，渥太华市金融业、旅游业、医疗保健等产业也很发达。

【教育】渥太华市有4所大学、2所学院及众多技术学院和职业学校。渥太华大学和卡尔顿大学是该市两所主要的高等学府。渥太华地区人口受教育程度居全国首位，其博士生密集度与美国波士顿持平，在北美地区位居榜首。

【两市交往】1999年10月18日，北京市与渥太华市正式建立友好城市关系。近年来，两市交往密切，科创、经贸、文化和旅游等领域合作成果丰硕。

科创领域：2014年，中关村发展集团与渥太华投资署合作设立渥太华国际孵化中心，大力吸引加拿大科创项目和高层次人才，部分项目经孵化发展已成功落地中关村。

经贸领域：2015年，中关村股权投资协会与渥太华投资署在京合作举办渥太华投资洽谈会。渥太华访华团现场展示了医疗器械、大数据、清洁能源等多个精品项目, 并与中国投资人、企业家开展深入交流。

文化旅游领域：2012年，渥太华市作为首批会员城市加入由我市发起成立的“世界旅游城市联合会”。2014年，国家大剧院管弦乐团赴渥太华加拿大国家艺术中心举办音乐会。2017年，借加拿大建国150周年重要契机，我市在渥太华成功举办“北京周”活动，共吸引1.6万加民众入场，活动通过多元素集聚及多种宣传方式向西方主流社会展现全方位、立体化的北京。
