[Overview] Rome is the capital of Italy as well as the country's political, economic, cultural and transportation center. It is located in the middle of the Italian Peninsula. The Tiber River passes through the city. It covers an area of 1,287 square kilometers and has a population of about 2.87 million.

[Politics] The city council is the highest administrative body of Rome. It consists of 48 members elected for a term of five years. The City Commission, the executive body of the city, is composed of a mayor, a deputy mayor, and 11 commissioners in charge of different fields. The mayor is elected by popular vote for a term of five years, and has the power to appoint deputy mayors and committee members. The incumbent Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, took office in June 2016.

[Economy] Services industries, especially tourism and finance, are the pillar industries of Rome. Industrial activities are mainly concentrated in the fields of communications, medicine and food processing. Rome is also a well-known fashion and design capital. With good weather conditions and well-preserved historical monuments, the city has become an important center for the film and television industry.

[Culture and Education] Rome is a world-renowned historical and cultural city and the birthplace of the ancient Roman Empire. It is hailed as the world's largest open-air history museum. Famous sites to visit in Rome include the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Roman Forum. There are many universities and art colleges in the city, including the Sapienza University of Rome.

[Relations with Beijing] On May 28, 1998, Beijing and Rome officially became sister cities. The relationship between the two cities has developed smoothly since then.

【概况】罗马市是意大利首都，意政治、经济、文化和交通中心，位于意大利半岛中部，台伯河穿城而过。面积1287平方公里，人口约287万。

【政治】罗马市政委员会是市最高权力机构，设48个席位，委员任期5年。市政府（称为“城市委员会”）是执行机构，领导班子由1名市长、1名副市长和11名分管不同领域的委员组成。市长由直接选举产生，任期5年，有权任命副市长和各委员。现任市长维尔吉尼娅·拉吉于2016年6月就职。

【经济】服务业是罗马市支柱产业，其中旅游业、金融业最为重要。工业主要集中在通信、医药和食品加工领域。此外，罗马还是著名的时尚和设计之都，凭借着良好的气候条件和保存完整的历史建筑成为影视业的重要基地。

【文化教育】罗马市是世界历史文化名城、古罗马帝国的发祥地，被喻为全球最大的“露天历史博物馆”，名胜古迹众多，如斗兽场、万神庙、古罗马市场废墟等。市内有罗马大学等多所大学和艺术类院校。

【两市交往】1998年5月28日，北京市和罗马市正式建立友好城市关系。结好以来，两市关系发展顺利。

旅游合作：2012年，罗马市加入由我市发起的世界旅游城市联合会（WTCF）。2016年12月，市旅游委在罗马市举办了北京旅游资源推介、北京美食品鉴日等活动，引起热烈反响。

人文交流：2011年10月，我市以意大利“中国文化年”为契机，在罗马市“丝绸之路”博览会框架内成功举办了“中国文化年·魅力北京”系列文化活动。2013年2月，为配合国家总体外交，同时庆祝两市结好15周年，我市在罗马市举办了2013年“欢乐春节”活动暨北京—罗马结好15周年庆典。

Tourism: In 2012, Rome joined the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) which was established on the initiative of Beijing. In December 2016, then Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development organized activities such as Beijing Tourism Resource Promotion Event and Beijing Food Day in Rome, receiving positive response from local people.

Culture: In October 2011, Beijing presented Charming Beijing activities within the framework of Rome's Silk Road Expo, as part of Italy's Year of Chinese Culture event. In February 2013, Beijing staged Chinese New Year celebrations in Rome to mark the 15th anniversary of the sisterhood between the two cities and promote the diplomatic relations between our two countries.
