China-developed Vaccines Facilitate Global Anti-Pandemic Campaign

From the rain forests in the Amazons to the highlands in Anatolia, from Southeast Asia to Transcaucasia...When the COVID-19 pandemic is wreaking havoc around the world, China-developed vaccines are arriving at places where they are most needed, to build a strong shield to protect people's lives. With more and more national leaders getting inoculated with Chinese vaccines, and more and more orders from overseas, more and more countries have shown confidence in the safe, effective, accessible, and affordable Chinese vaccines.

The first criterion of China-developed vaccines is safety and effectiveness. Though the testing standards vary in different countries, the safety and effectiveness index achieved by China-developed vaccines have exceeded the standards set by the WHO. They can effectively protect large numbers of people.

Indonesian Drug and Food Administration announced that, the CoronaVac developed by Sinovac Biotech Co., Ltd. in China has completed phase III of clinical tests in Bandung, Indonesia. Its effectiveness is higher than the 50% threshold set by the WHO. Turkey's Minister of Health stated that preliminary analysis of volunteer vaccine takers in Turkey demonstrated that the effectiveness of the Sinovac vaccine is as high as 91.25%. After examining related documents and scientific evidences, Serbian Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices also announced that the criteria of the EU and the WHO have confirmed the quality, effectiveness, and safety of China-developed vaccines.

At present, the question of global equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines received extensive attention. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus cautions that, as impoverished countries cannot receive vaccines as fast as wealthy countries, this is putting the world on the verge of a "catastrophic moral failure." In this context, the attribute of China-developed vaccines as accessible and affordable global public goods are becoming increasingly prominent.

The fair and reasonable pricing of China-developed vaccines is expected to greatly reduce the economic burdens of under-developed, poor countries. The great production capacities of Chinese enterprises can alleviate the supply shortage of global vaccines. With only 2 to 8 Celsius degrees needed for storage and transportation, China-developed vaccines conform to the cold chain conditions in most countries, and can reduce the cost for storage and transportation.

Mature technology, low cost, and convenient transportation, accessible and affordable China-developed vaccines are effectively benefitting the world. In a remote area deep in the Amazon rain forest, the COVID-19 virus caused the death of 37 indigenous residents and left more than 2,000 infected. After getting inoculated with the vaccine, 68-year-old indigenous resident Isabelle Tikula expressed: "This is our hope." The New York Times also indicated that China-developed vaccines may become "the lifeline for developing countries."

Algeria, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, the Philippines...an increasing number of countries are seeking China-developed vaccines, and Chinese enterprises are working hard to satisfy production needs. From the initial commitment of making the vaccines global public goods, to entering the COVAX global vaccine plan led by the WHO, to using practical action to provide help to developing countries to realize the equitable distribution of the vaccine globally, China is consistent in devoting itself to building a global community of health for all, and contributing to the accessibility and affordability of vaccines in developing countries.

The virus has no borders. Facing the pandemic, no country can be detached from the international community. Only when we can guarantee that all endangered people are protected, then humanity can finally overcome the COVID-19 virus and achieve overall safety. Bearing the traditional virtue of saving lives, China-developed vaccines are continuously injecting confidence, providing help, and bringing hope to the global anti-pandemic campain.
